RESUMO

Paget disease often presents as a rare asymptomatic lesion of the bone until it progresses into the advanced stages. A senile man was diagnosed with Paget disease of bone on routine dental radiographic analysis. His history of fractures, periodical ill-fitting dentures and frequent pain in the long bones were contributing to the diagnosis. The patient was referred to a general physician where whole body radiographs were taken, which showed several of the classic features of Paget disease. Biochemical analysis was also done in which serum alkaline phosphatase was elevated with all other values within normal limits, confirming the diagnosis. The patient was treated with single-infusion bisphosphonate followed by other required dental procedures. Early diagnosis and prompt management gave a good prognosis, preventing the potential complications.

RESUMO

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a form of ß-Coronavirus of the Coronaviridae family, has been causing infection among humans worldwide leading to a pandemic emergency. New strains of SARS-CoV-2 have been evolving unceasingly, presenting with various systemic and oral manifestations. There has been an increase in the incidence of secondary infection in the coronavirus infected individual either due to pre-existing factors or the virus by itself is causing such infection, which is still unclear. As it is already known, immunocompromised and uncontrolled diabetic patients have an increased chance of developing mucormycosis. Herein, we report a case who presented with a swelling in the left cheek, eye, and avascular necrosis intraorally, post COVID-19 infection.

RESUMO

Recurrent aphthous ulcers are the most prevalent oral mucosal disease, but the subset major aphthous ulcer is a less frequent type. These ulcers are refractory, may persist for several weeks to months, and interfere with the normal state of health. The aetiology is multifactorial and so is the treatment. We present a case of an adolescent male patient reported with multiple oral ulcers. He developed three ulcers simultaneously and suffered for 10 months despite using topical medications prescribed by different dental practitioners. We executed a multidisciplinary treatment approach that resulted in a long-term disease-free state. The treatment methods followed in our case could be a successful model to implement by medical practitioners and oral physicians when the situation demands.

RESUMO

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting psoriatic patients. Its clinical manifestations in patients can vary over time, advancing from one joint to the next with an intermittent pattern of exacerbation and remission. The condition shares similar manifestations with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis, and reactive arthritis; hence, a comprehensive examination is required for a proper diagnosis and management. It is associated with an increased risk of comorbidities affecting patients' well-being. There have been few incidences of involvement extending to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), but a proper record needs to be maintained to evaluate its part in PsA. In this report, we present a case of PsA in which the patient complained of ear pain and was discovered to have early alterations in the TMJ.
